On the probability of abandonment in queues with limited sojourn and waiting times

چکیده
Consider the Geo/Geo/1 queue with impatient customers and let X reflect the patience distribution. We show that systems with a smaller patience distribution X in the convex-ordering sense give rise to fewer abandonments (due to impatience), irrespective of whether customers become patient when entering the service facility. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. Heavy-traffic Limits for Waiting times in Many-server Queues with Abandonment
We establish heavy-traffic stochastic-process limits for waiting times in many-server queues with customer abandonment. If the system is asymptotically critically loaded, as in the quality-and-efficiencydriven (QED) regime, then a bounding argument shows that the abandonment does not affect waiting-time processes. If instead the system is overloaded, as in the efficiency-driven (ED) regime, fol...

متن کاملA Non-Preemptive Two-Class M/M/1 System with Prioritized Real-Time Jobs under Earliest-Deadline-First Policy
This paper introduces an analytical method for approximating the performance of a two-class priority M/M/1 system. The system is fully non-preemptive. More specifically, the prioritized class-1 jobs are real-time and served with the non-preemptive earliest-deadline-first (EDF) policy, but despite their priority cannot preempt any non real-time class-2 job. The waiting class-2 jobs can only be s...
متن کاملExponential Approximations for Tail Probabilities in Queues: Sojourn Time and Workload
In this paper, we focus on simple exponential approximations for steady-state tail probabilities in G/GI/1 queues based on large-time asymptotics. We relate the large-time asymptotics for the steady-state waiting time, sojourn time and workload. We evaluate the exponential approximations based on the exact asymptotic parameters and their approximations by making comparisons with exact numerical...
متن کاملCHAPTER 1 Quantiles of Sojourn Times
Fast response times and the satisfaction of response time quantile targets are important performance criteria for almost all transaction processing, computer-communication and other operational systems. However, response time quantiles tend to be difficult to obtain in stochastic models, even when the mean value of the response time has a relatively simple mathematical expression. Expressions h...
